Cochrane RCMP seize firearms following disturbance on Stoney Nakoda First Nation

On Aug. 22, 2025, Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance outside of a residence on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. Witnesses reported that windows were being destroyed, and a male was present and armed with a firearm.

Police immediately attended the scene and determined that the suspect had already fled the area. A short time later, police conducted a traffic stop where the suspect was located and safely arrested without further incident.

As the investigation continued, Cochrane RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) obtained and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence on Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The search resulted in the seizure of three firearms as well as prohibited weapons.

A 41-year-old individual, a resident of Mînî Thnî, Alta., has been charged with the following offences:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (x3)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (x2)
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief

The individual was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on Aug. 26, 2025.
