On Aug. 24, 2025, Piikani Nation RCMP attempted a traffic stop on a white Hyundai Santa Fe, which was seen driving dangerously leaving a gas station in Brocket. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 3, nearly causing collisions with multiple other vehicles. Piikani Nation RCMP disengaged due to the public safety risk and returned to the gas station to review surveillance footage to identify the driver.

While reviewing footage from the gas station, RCMP identified the driver and learned that the driver had assaulted a male passenger and appeared to have forcibly confined the passenger into the back seat of the vehicle before driving off.

With assistance from Calgary Police Service, the suspect vehicle was located in Calgary. The driver was taken into custody, and the victim was confirmed safe.

A 38-year-old individual, a resident of Brocket, was charged with the following offences:

  • Assault
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operation While Prohibited

The individual was held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing and remanded for Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Macleod, Alta. on Aug. 28, 2025.

Piikani Nation RCMP would like to thank Calgary Police Service and all support units for their assistance.
