Strathcona County RCMP member involved shooting – Update #2

Strathcona County RCMP are issuing an update in relation to the investigation of an armed individual in the detachment parking lot that led to a police shooting on July 28, 2025.

On July 29, 2025, Strathcona County RCMP arrested and charged a 54-year-old individual, a resident of Sherwood Park, with:

• Using an imitation firearm while committing an Indictable offence;
• Assault with a weapon;
• Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

The individual was released on conditions to appear Oct. 1, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Sherwood Park. 

Since this incident, Strathcona RCMP have reevaluated and implemented further security measures at the detachment in order to ensure the safety and security of the employees and the public.

ASIRT remains as the primary investigators on the police use of force in this incident and any questions with relation to this incident should be directed to them.
