Stonewall RCMP recover stolen vehicle after reports of suspicious activity

On September 3, 2025, at 8:50 am, Stonewall RCMP were made aware of a suspicious male driving around the industrial park on Inkster Road in the Rural Municipality of Rosser.
Police located the suspicious vehicle parked between two trailers on Bergen Cut Off Road.
Officers approached the vehicle, discovered the license plates were stolen, and then attempted to wake up the driver who was sleeping.
The male driver woke up and immediately placed the vehicle in reverse, damaging a police vehicle. The driver then accelerated forward to flee, driving through a chain linked fence in front of him.
Officers deployed a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System to assist in the search for the vehicle that had driven into a field. A short time later it was located parked in the middle of a field on Lucas Avenue.
RCMP officers along with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Service (PDS) all attended the scene and safely apprehended the driver without incident.
The recovered vehicle was reported stolen near Headingley and the licence plates were reported stolen Winnipeg.
The driver, Lee Stewart, 34, from Winnipeg has been remanded in custody. He was charged with:
- Flight from Police officer
- Assault
- Mischief x 2
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
