RCMP Federal Policing – Eastern Region announces the arrest of two individuals who were charged in connection with cocaine trafficking in June 2023. Benoît David, 55, was arrested by Interpol in Santiago, Chile, on August 8. An international arrest warrant had been issued for him after charges were laid. A request has been made to the Chilean authorities for his extradition to Canada. William Thomas Webber, 44, was arrested on August 19 in Mississauga, Ont. Mr. Webber had been the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant since failing to appear in court for his trial last May.
Two other individuals are still wanted in connection with this case: Judith Zayas-Bazan, 58, and Adham Haouili, 43. Both are subject to international arrest warrants. The fifth accused, Michaël Duguay-Hallé, 39, of Terrebonne, is scheduled to reappear in court on September 5 for further proceedings.
Background
According to the investigation known as “Project Camelot”, led by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) in collaboration with the Longueuil police service, the five accused allegedly conspired to transport cocaine from the Toronto and Montréal regions to St. John’s, Newfoundland, by seaplane. The aircraft was seized, along with 10 kg of cocaine, 3 firearms and approximately $32,000 in cash. Mr. David and Ms. Zaya-Bazan are also facing charges related to unauthorized firearm possession.
