A prohibited driver is facing charges after RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador officers responded to a moose-vehicle collision in Terra Nova National Park on Thursday. Two vehicles involved separate crashes sustained extensive damages, and the occupants of one of the vehicles were transported to hospital.

At approximately 6:41 p.m. on Thursday October 30, 2025, Glovertown RCMP responded to a collision between a passenger vehicle carrying two people and moose on the Trans-Canada Highway in Terra Nova Park. Both the driver and passenger suffered varying degrees of injuries in the crash and were transported to James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander.

Investigators determined that the driver – an 18-year-old man – was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle. With the assistance of the Gander RCMP, the man was served a notice to appear in Gander court at a later date to answer to charges under the Highway Traffic Act of:

  • Driving while disqualified, suspended or prohibited,
  • Operate or permit operation of vehicle without a policy,
  • Operate vehicle with defective tires.

Police also learned that the driver of another vehicle, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), had collided with the same moose just minutes before the crash. That vehicle also required a tow from the scene.

The investigation into these collisions continues. Anyone with any information or dash cam footage of these incidents is asked to contact the Glovertown RCMP at 709-533-2828.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks the Glovertown Fire Rescue, Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Health Services and Parks Canada employees for all their assistance at the scene. Police continue to ask motorists to remain alert, drive with caution and watch for moose along our roadways.
