A 34-year-old man had his vehicle impounded by Placentia RCMP on Saturday, after he was stopped for speeding and found to be operating without a valid driver’s license.

At approximately 2:24 p.m. on November 1, an officer on patrol observed a drive travelling 90 km/hour through a 50 km/hr zone in Jerseyside. A traffic stop was conducted, and police determined that the driver — a 34-year-old man from Freshwater — was operating with a suspended driver’s license.

His vehicle was seized and impounded, and he was issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding and driving while disqualified.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador urges motorists to slow down and plan ahead. The extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is not worth it. There are penalties like fines, having your license suspended or seeing your vehicle seized and impounded. But there are far worse consequences: you could seriously hurt yourself, your passengers, other drivers, pedestrians or animals. In some cases, your speed could cause life-altering injury or cost someone their life.
