A 40-year-old woman was arrested by Port Saunders RCMP on Saturday after she fled on foot from officers on patrol and was later found to be in possession of cocaine and other paraphernalia associated with illegal drug trafficking.
At approximately 7:21 p.m. on November 1, 2025, a Port Saunders RCMP officer on patrol along Main Street spotted two individuals running away from police. One of the individuals — 40-year-old Angela Marie McCarthy of Corner Brook — was located by officers hiding outside a nearby residence.
McCarthy was arrested without incident, and a search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected cocaine, multiple knives, a cellular device and other items consistent with drug trafficking activities.
McCarthy faces charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) including:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine,
- Failure to comply with a Probation Order,
- Failure to comply with a Release Order – two counts,
- Theft under $5,000.
She was held in custody to appear in provincial court over the weekend and was remanded. She was expected to appear in Corner Brook Provincial Court yesterday.
Cocaine is the leading cause of overdose deaths in Newfoundland and Labrador. Naloxone is ineffective in combatting cocaine overdose. If you suspect someone is overdosing on cocaine, immediately seek medical attention.
