RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a woman for driving while impaired by drug in Sheet Harbour.

On September 15, at approximately 6:30 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of an impaired driver leaving a gas station in the 22500 block of Hwy. 7.

Officers learned a woman, driving a Kia Sedona, was exhibiting signs of impairment at the gas station before she left and drove to a nearby grocery store. Responding officers located the woman and initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot. The officers observed signs of impairment and conducted a roadside sobriety test.

The 36-year-old woman of Antigonish performed poorly on the roadside sobriety test and was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.  She was transported to Sheet Harbour RCMP Detachment where she was assessed by a Halifax Regional Police Drug Recognition Expert. The officer determined the woman was impaired by drug.

The woman is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.

The RCMP would like to thank all those who report suspected impaired drivers.  If you believe someone is driving impaired or is otherwise an immediate threat to public safety, call 911.
