RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has charged a man after a sheathed machete was used in an assault in Prospect.
On September 14, at approximately 1:11 a.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a man wielding a machete on Elaine Ave. Officers learned that the man had attended a party in the area earlier and got into a verbal altercation. He then returned with a machete and a large dog. He struck a 41-year-old man with the sheathed machete and physically assaulted a 43-year-old man who tried to intervene.
With the assistance of Halifax Regional Police Canine Unit, officers contained and safely arrested the man.
The victims of the assault sustained minor injuries.
Damien Wilson Collins, 32, of Prospect Bay, is charged with Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
Collins appeared in Halifax Provincial Court on September 15. He was released by the court on conditions and is due to appear again on October 14.
