The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is pleased to announce the appointment of Chief Superintendent John Duff as its Officer in Charge.
A Halifax native, C/Supt. Duff joined the RCMP in 1990 after graduating from Acadia University with a degree in Biology. He spent the majority of his career in Manitoba, where he rose through the ranks to become Superintendent. After retiring from the RCMP in 2018, he took on the role of Director of Protective Services for the City of Selkirk.
His passion for policing brought him back to the RCMP shortly after, rejoining at the rank of Inspector to serve as Officer in Charge of the Selkirk Detachment. His leadership and dedication led to a promotion to Superintendent as Manitoba East District Commander in 2021, where he served for four years before returning home to Halifax.
With 35 years of service, C/Supt. Duff has built his career around General Duty and District policing. He is a third-generation Mountie, following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather.
Since arriving in Halifax, he has already become a familiar face at community events such as the Emancipation Day Run, Annual Preston Area Gala, and the Special Olympics Truck Convoy, among others.
When asked about his priorities for Halifax Regional Detachment, C/Supt. Duff shared:
“I want to continue integration with Halifax Regional Police, elevate community safety, and strengthen our connection with the communities we serve while ensuring health and wellness of our employees.”
Please join us in welcoming Chief Superintendent John Duff back to the Maritimes and into his new leadership role.
