On July 21, 2025, the Iqaluit RCMP received a complaint from the City of Iqaluit, who reported that one of their brand-new vehicle crate engines had been stolen from their Public Works yard. The City of Iqaluit was able to provide police with CCTV footage, which help police identify two suspects.

On July 28, 2025, the Iqaluit RCMP charged, Sylvain Poirier (age 54) and Pio Giuseppe Anthony Merla (age 61) with:

  • Break and enter to commit theft, contrary to Section 348(1)(b) C.C
