The Nunavut RCMP is aware of a social media scam that have been occurring on social media. Scammers are creating fake Facebook business accounts, where they pose as Nunavut businesses and are offering online sales of their products and shipping across Nunavut.
The Nunavut RCMP offers the following tips to help avoid becoming a victim of online fraud:
- Be wary of sale or items that seem “too goo to be true”,
- Do not provide personal information, like your date of birth or banking information to anyone online,
- If an email address provided for an e-transfer is not associated to a Nunavut business, it could be a scam,
- Do an internet search to see if the business has a phone number and call them directly.
