Officers in Fort Smith seized drugs and cash during an investigation into a single-vehicle collision and are requesting public assistance in locating the vehicle’s passenger.
On Saturday, November 1st, at 6:00 p.m., RCMP in Fort Smith were called to attend a single-vehicle collision on Highway 5, near King Street, along with Fort Smith Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, in the ditch. A 43-year-old male, believed to be the driver, appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle, and was found near the vehicle with life-threatening injuries. He was immediately transported to the local health centre and then transferred to Edmonton for treatment.
Fort Smith RCMP started investigating the collision and believe alcohol was a factor.
During this investigation, witnesses reported to the RCMP that a 14-year-old male youth was seen leaving the scene on foot. It is believed this youth was a passenger in the vehicle.
Multiple units, including G Division Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, were actively engaged in the search for the youth. The RCMP conducted searches in various locations to locate him.
During their efforts, RCMP attended a residence on Whooping Crane Drive. Inside the residence, RCMP found a 16-year-old male youth in possession of 384 grams of suspected cocaine, $6,095 in Canadian currency, four cellular phones and drug paraphernalia.
RCMP launched a separate investigation and subsequently arrested the youth, originally from Ontario, and charged him with:
• Possession of substance, in violation of section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, in violation of section 5(2) of the the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of property obtained by crime, in violation of section 354(1) of the Criminal Code
The 16-year-old youth has been released from custody and is missing in Toronto, Ontario. The investigation is ongoing.
Whereabouts and identity of the 14-year-old youth remain unknown.
Fort Smith RCMP is asking for public’s assistance in locating the 14-year-old passenger of the vehicle. The youth is described as slender, approximately 5’5” / 1,68 m, with sandy blond hair and a possible mark near his left eye. He was seen near Kaeser’s Stores on November 1st, at 5:30 pm, wearing a black hoodie, black track pants with a red stripe down the sides.
Fort Smith RCMP are concerned for the youth's well-being, as he was involved in a car accident and may require medical attention.
Anyone who can identify the youth and with information of their whereabouts is asked to contact Fort Smith RCMP at 867-872-1111 or Crimestoppers at https://p3tips.com
