On Monday August 11, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. PEI RCMP held a press conference to update on the shooting incident in Urbainville. The following is a summary of the statement presented at that time.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Friday August 8, RCMP responded to a report of shots fired on the rural dirt road Route 125, Hackmatack Road in Urbainville. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle that had left the roadway, rolled, and struck a utility pole.

We can now update that the 35-year-old male driver was injured by the shots fired and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His cause of death is still under investigation at the coroner’s office. A 50-year-old woman, also an occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Hospital with serious injuries. Both families have requested the public respect their privacy during this difficult time.

This incident occurred on a rural dirt road that is not heavily travelled. Based on evidence we believe there was another vehicle at this scene. This is believed to be an isolated incident.

Police are also investigating a burned vehicle located in Saint Lawrence, near Miminegash in Prince County, which was reported to RCMP at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Saturday August 9. This vehicle may be linked to the case.

Extensive investigative steps are underway, including video canvassing, statement collection, forensic examination, and traffic reconstruction. Police do have many leads to investigate but do not have an arrest at this time.

These incidents are uncommon in our province and understandably unsettling, we take this very seriously, and extensive police resources have been deployed to this investigation. As this investigation progresses, Islanders can rest assured that we will share what we can. We take Islanders safety very seriously and our thoughts are with the victim’s family.

If you have information that can assist with this investigation, which could include dash-cam video, please contact West Prince RCMP at 902-853-9300 or East Prince RCMP at 902-436-9300. To remain anonymous, call PEI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
