Prince District RCMP investigating shots fired in Urbainville, seeks public's assistance

Prince District RCMP is investigating an incident of shots fired into a vehicle on August 8, 2025, in the area of Urabinville in western PEI.
Around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, police responded to a report of shots fired on Route 125, the Hackmatack Rd. A vehicle involved in the incident appears to have crashed into a ditch on this road, striking a telephone pole. An unidentified man, believed to be the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 50-year-old Summerside woman was taken to Prince County Hospital with serious injuries.
Island EMS and Wellington Fire Department also attended the incident, with the support of Provincial Department of Highways personnel. RCMP Police Dog Services, Queens District RCMP, PEI RCMP Traffic Services and RCMP Forensic Investigative Section also responded to the incident. Police determined the incident was targeted and isolated to this scene and therefore did not meet the requirements for an Alert Ready message. The investigation, which is being led by PEI RCMP Major Crime Unit, is continuing.
