PEI RCMP seeking public help in theft at National Historic Site

On August 29, 2025, Queens District RCMP received a report of two bronze plaques stolen from the Fort Amherst National Historic Site.  Two of three plaques on display were stolen. The plaques stolen are approximately 2’ x 3’ in size and made of bronze.  They are inscribed with trilingual messages in Mi’kmaq, English and French. The cost of the theft and damages is estimated to be over $10,000.00. Photos of the plaques before the theft and after are attached.

Parks Canada Warden’s are assisting with the ongoing investigation.  Anyone with any information about this crime, the identity of the person(s) responsible or the current location of the stolen items is asked to contact the RCMP Queens District at 902-368-9300 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-TIPS (8477).
