On October 19, 2025 at 1:50 am Queens District RCMP responded to multiple reports from the public of a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road in Hunter River. The vehicle was located, and the driver did not stop for police. A short time later the driver was located and arrested for impaired driving and flight from police. While dealing with the driver police noticed a small fire coming from the undercarriage of the stopped vehicle. The New Glasgow Fire department were called and arrived on scene quickly to put out the small fire. At this stage the fire does not appear to have been intentional, and the cause is undetermined. No one was injured in this incident, and the 26-year-old man will appear in court at a later date.

We would like to thank the members of the public who quickly alerted police to this dangerous situation. Impaired driving puts everyone at risk, and in this case, driving on the wrong side of the road could have had tragic consequences. Thanks to the public’s calls to police, the individual was taken into custody safely — even as the vehicle was on fire.
