Saskatchewan RCMP: male arrested after firearm discharge on Big River First Nation

On September 10, 2025 at approximately 2:50 p.m., Big River RCMP received a report of an armed male on Big River First Nation.

Officers responded immediately and began searching for the male. Investigation determined the male was driving around the community on a dirt bike and had discharged a firearm several times. No physical injuries were reported. Officers responded and located the male suspect. The male fled on foot from police into a forested area.

As a result of consideration of public safety risk associated with the outstanding suspect, Saskatchewan RCMP issued one dangerous person alert to Big River First Nation and surrounding area at 4:09 p.m.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, and Critical Incident Response Team were engaged to assist in the search for the suspect.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., officers located and arrested the male suspect in a heavily treed area near the community of Big River First Nation. At 6:21 p.m., Saskatchewan RCMP cancelled the dangerous person alert as there was no longer a heightened risk to public safety.

As a result of continued investigation, 19-year-old Drayden McAdam from Big River First Nation is charged with:

  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.

He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Big River First Nation for assault, and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and four other offences in relation to a September 6 incident on Big River First Nation.

Drayden McAdam is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on September 15, 2025.

RCMP have arrested Drayden Mcadam on Big River First Nation.

The dangerous person alert issued by the Saskatchewan RCMP for the Big River First Nation area has been cancelled. There is not believed to be a heightened risk to public safety at this time. Should that change, we will notify the public immediately.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Saskatchewan RCMP has issued a dangerous person alert for Big River First Nation and the surrounding area.

The details are as follows: Big River RCMP is responding to reports of a dangerous person with a gun on Big River First Nation. Suspect is Drayden Mcadam. He has brown eyes and black hair. Last seen wearing a black Vegas Knights hoodie and white pants. Last seen armed with firearm on foot on Big River First Nation. Police responding.
