"The Shoot" is a competition between the Yukon RCMP and the Alaska State Troopers. This competition is known as the world's longest-running international law enforcement firearms competition. It has been held continuously since 1960, alternating locations between the State of Alaska and the Yukon. (Well, there was an interruption due to COVID, but let's ignore that break.)

The last competition was held in Whitehorse in June 2019, and in June 2024, the 60th edition was held in Fairbanks, Alaska. This year, the competition was held in Whitehorse from August 8 to the 10.

While the event is built up around a shooting competition, the occasion is also about skill development, reinforcing effective cross border professional relationships and supporting camaraderie between the Troopers and Mounties.  The Shoot is considered one of the cornerstones to maintaining the close working relationship the Yukon RCMP has with the Alaska State Troopers.  For decades the Mounties and the Troopers have worked side by side along the border between the Yukon Territory and the State of Alaska and continue to do so.  The Shoot promotes and maintains effective networks which assist with working together on Yukon/Alaska northern frontier policing issues.

We thank our fellow Northern neighbour for their continued camaraderie, and we are pleased to say that the Yukon RCMP Team won the competition and successfully brought the trophy home. The real win was the friends we made and the comradery we shared.
