On Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at approximately 3:13 pm Watson Lake RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at kilometre 1042 of the Alaska Highway.
A Forensic Collision Analyst attended the scene the afternoon of August 7, 2025. Preliminary information from the investigation is that a SUV collided with a stationary tractor-trailer that was stopped at a marked construction zone.
The two adult male occupants of the SUV, both American citizens, were injured and transported to Watson Lake Hospital. The passenger of the SUV was medivacked to Whitehorse General Hospital and then to Vancouver for further care. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision.
Watson Lake RCMP officers would like to thank the construction crew for their quick response to this accident. Police advise there was a traveler in the area that was medically trained, and they provided immediate first aid. Watson Lake Fire Department and Watson Lake Emergency Medical Services attended the scene where the jaws of life were required.
