Whitehorse RCMP provide updates on two investigations

On April 27, 2025, Whitehorse RCMP responded to a report there were shots fired around the area of Selkirk Street in Whitehorse. As a result of the investigation, three individuals have been charged. 

On April 27, 2025 officers responded to a report of shots fired and located one young person who had been shot in the leg. A plea was made to the public for witnesses and video footage.

An 18-year-old was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to injure, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, for being in possession of a firearm and bear spray, and assault with a weapon.

Two other individuals whose names are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were also charged with discharging a firearm with intent to injure, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose for being in possession of bear spray and assault with a weapon. One of the individuals has an additional charge of possess a firearm for a dangerous purpose.

All three of the charged individuals had their first appearance in court in early August.

The second update is that Daniel Curtis Whalen also known as Danny Whalen has been arrested.

Mr. Whalen was wanted on an arrest warrant for robbery and aggravated assault in connection to the July 28, 2025 incident involving a stabbing in the Hillcrest subdivision area.

During the early morning hours of August 21, 2025, Whitehorse RCMP responded to a report of several people in downtown Whitehorse, and one person was in possession of a handgun. Whitehorse RCMP located and arrested Mr. Whalen, along with another adult female. An imitation handgun was recovered, and a victim reported he had been approached by Mr. Whalen who demanded he give him his wallet. Mr. Whalen was charged with robbery using an imitation firearm, resist arrest and fail to comply with a probation order.  He was held in custody with a next court appearance scheduled for September 17, 2025 at 9:30 am.

The criminal charges for using a realistic firearm in the commission of an offence are the same as if it was a real firearm.
