IHIT deployed to Surrey following shooting inside a residence

Background:

At approximately 4:55 a.m. on January 24, 2026, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers responded to calls of a shooting in a residence in the 12500 block of 91 Avenue, Surrey. 

Upon arrival, members located two men apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. SPS officers, Surrey Fire Services and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) rendered aid to the victims. Unfortunately, one man was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. One victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) deployed to Surrey and assumed conduct of the investigation.

Update:

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police believe this shooting to be a targeted incident that occurred inside a residence. Investigators have confirmed that the victims and suspect were known to each other. 

Investigators do not believe this to be connected to the BC Gang Conflict or extortion. IHIT is working in close partnership with SPS, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service. 

“The investigative team believes this to be a targeted homicide, between people known to each other and they are working to understand the totality of the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “The presence of gun violence in a residential neighbourhood continues to be of concern for communities and police. We are liaising with our policing partners to collect evidence, conduct interviews and advance this investigation.”
