A man has now been sentenced for 2024 fatal shooting in Maple Ridge

Background:

On May 31, 2024, at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. Police and first responders attended and located the victim, who was subsequently declared deceased on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect, fleeing the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the Abbotsford Police Department to advance the investigation.

On August 23, 2024, Alexander Delair of Maple Ridge was charged with one count of second-degree murder with a firearm, in relation to the homicide.

On November 18, 2025, Mr. Delair pleaded guilty to the lesser-included offence of manslaughter with a firearm, in relation to the homicide.

Update:

On April 1, 2026, Mr. Delair, now 27 years old, was sentenced in relation to this offence and an unrelated robbery.  The effective global sentence imposed was 15 years in prison. At the time of sentencing, Mr. Delair had spent approximately 20 months in custody, credited as two-and-half-years. He will serve a further 12-and-a-half years in prison. The court also imposed a lifetime firearms prohibition, a DNA order, and a forfeiture order.

“The victim was only 34 years old when his life was taken away due to a senseless act of violence,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “While the sentencing does not change that fact, we hope it represents a step forward in the healing process for his loved ones.”
