Background:

On April 28, 2026, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to reports of shots fired into a vehicle in the 6800-block of 148 Street, Surrey.

Upon arrival, SPS officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the man was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. A second victim, an adult male, was also found at the scene and they were transported to hospital with reportedly minor injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has assumed conduct of the investigation.

Update:

IHIT continues to work in close partnership with the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit, Surrey Police Service Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the BC Coroners Service to advance this investigation.

The victim was a 25-year-old resident of Surrey. His name is not yet being released as family notifications are still ongoing.

While the investigation is in its infancy, investigators believe this was an isolated and targeted incident, with initial information suggesting that the shooting has ties to the BC gang conflict.

“Thanks to Surrey Police Service frontline officers for their quick actions in securing the scene and preserving vital evidence while also managing a large number of potential witnesses in the area,” says Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. “Extensive work is underway to interview those witnesses; however, anyone else who saw the shooting or knows the victims is asked to connect with investigators.”

IHIT is also seeking CCTV or dashcam video from April 28, 2026, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in and around the follow areas:

  • 148 Street between 72 Avenue and 64 Avenue
  • 96 Avenue between 123 Street and 125 Street
  • Including alleyways.

Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
