IHIT File # 2025-116

Background:

On January 31, 2025, at approximately 9:42 p.m., the Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a fight outside the John B Pub located at 1000 Austin Avenue. Bystanders acted quickly by providing first aid to a man who was suffering from a life-threatening injury. First responders attended but despite the efforts of paramedics, the 35-year-old man died on scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) assumed conduct of the investigation and continued to work in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to advance the case.

On February 1, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against Timothy Vansnick.

Update:

On May 12, 2026, Mr. Vansnick, now 33 years old, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for his involvement in the death of the 35-year-old victim. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3 and 4, 2026 at Port Coquitlam Law Courts.

“The entering of a guilty plea is a significant step in the court process,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “As we await sentencing, our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends, and those who were impacted by this tragic death.”
