Auxiliary Program

What is it?
The Auxiliary Program was introduced in 1963 to enhance community policing and crime prevention initiatives. Auxiliaries give their time to help keep our communities safe, and the RCMP values these volunteers greatly and considers them a vital part of the organization. There are three different tiers of service for provinces or territories to choose from.
Who can join?
Auxiliaries are unarmed, specially trained volunteers. Auxiliary Program applicants must:
- be willing to contribute a minimum number of hours per year to the program
- be willing to commit to the program for a minimum of two years
- have current certification in Standard First Aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- for Tier 3 only, have successfully completed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course
- be at least 19 years of age
- be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status
Note
Individuals with permanent resident status must have resided in Canada for the last five consecutive years
- have a mature, responsible attitude and be of good character
- have successfully completed high school or its equivalent, or have equivalent work experience
- be able to obtain RCMP reliability status
- have no conflict of interest
- be proficient in English and/or French
- for Tier 2 and Tier 3, meet the medical requirements, including vision and hearing standards
- for Tier 2 and Tier 3, have a valid driver's licence
Activities
These vary by tier and from province to province, but can include:
- crime prevention and public safety education initiatives
- disaster assistance
- traffic control
- general duty operational patrols and attending calls for service with Regular Members
