  1. Core police training

Once you have passed all of the application and assessment steps, you will be contacted to join the RCMP through the Federal Policing Recruit Development Program.

The Federal Policing Recruit Development Program prepares new recruits for a career in Federal Policing. Successful applicants are hired as Constables and will attend an initial 12 weeks of core police training immediately followed by two weeks of Immediate Action Deployment and carbine training and then specialized police training and ongoing development, coaching and mentoring over a 2 year period.

Core police training

You will be assigned to a training cohort of approximately 24 recruits. The Federal Policing core police training is based on principles of adult-learning. Our training is delivered using a variety of methods, such as practical scenario training (problem-solving exercises), role play, lectures, and presentations. Upon successful completion of the 12 weeks of core police training in Ottawa, you will be given peace officer status. Immediately following core police training, you will also be required to complete Immediate Action Rapid Deployment and Carbine training and therefore will be required to remain in Ottawa for an additional 2 weeks, prior to deploying to your new unit.

Note

You will need to have a fit cardiovascular system as well as good muscular strength and endurance. Applicants are encouraged to be prepared to maintain or improve fitness levels before applying and to arrive at the core police training in good shape.
