An 18-year-old Nanaimo man is dead after a collision near Nanaimo, and BC Highway Patrol is looking for witnesses and dash camera video because criminality cannot be ruled out.
On November 2, 2025, at 10:30 p.m., a black Audi S3 sedan crashed and caught fire in the northbound lanes on Highway #1 near Morden Road, Vancouver Island. Witnesses have told police that a second dark-coloured car was driving in the area at the time but did not stop when the Audi crashed.
“We need to know more about that second dark car, possibly a black Honda Civic, that was driving in close proximity to the black Audi in the moments before it crashed,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “Dash-camera video and witnesses will be key to learning exactly what caused this collision.”
The 19-year-old Nanaimo man who was driving the crashed Audi went to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger died at scene.
Anyone who has dash-camera video, or who witnessed the events leading up to the collision, or who has information about the dark-coloured car that drove away from the scene, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Duncan at 250-746-2751 and quote file (7001) 2025-2168.
