BC Highway Patrol
The RCMP in British Columbia has approximately 455 dedicated BC Highway Patrol employees who provide traffic law enforcement, public education and work closely with partners to make our roads safe.
Our Strategic Objective is to make the roads of British Columbia the safest in the world. Our primary enforcement targets are those driving behaviours that cause roadway fatalities and serious injuries:
- Aggressive Drivers
- Distracted Drivers
- Impaired drivers by alcohol, drugs or medication
- Intersection Infractions
- Unbelted Occupants

Alexa's Bus
The Alexa’s Bus program was born from a tragedy which led to a collaborative effort between government, police, communities and the Middelaer family.

The Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) System is a license plate recognition program that allows vehicles observed by cameras to have their license plate read and recorded.

The RCMP Commercial Vehicle Safety Program is a partnership between the RCMP and other road safety agencies and organizations throughout BC.
Integrated Road Safety Unit
The Integrated Road Safety Unit is made up of over 130 traffic enforcement officers from the RCMP and Municipal Police agencies across the Province.
