The RCMP has laid a second-degree murder charge against the 45-year-old suspect in the homicide case that was reported in the evening of Thursday, October 30th.
On October 30th at approximately 9:33 p.m., Inuvik RCMP received a report that a person had been killed at a business on Industrial Road.
Officers attended the location and took the lone suspect, a 45-year-old male, into custody without incident.
As a result of this investigation, Kenneth Campbell of Inuvik was charged with one count of second-degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The suspect has been transported to Yellowknife and remanded into custody. Campbell is scheduled to appear in Court on November 4th, at 1:30 p.m.
Investigators believe this is a case of intimate partner violence and are classifying it as a femicide. A femicide refers to the intentional sex/gender-related killings of women and girls, primarily by men.
The investigation into this matter, led by G Division RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, is continuing.
