A resident attended the Agassiz RCMP detachment to report a theft from a vehicle parked on Mulberry Place. The victim reported that their wallet had been stolen from inside the vehicle. There was no visible damage, and the vehicle may have been left unlocked. Video surveillance shows a suspect approaching the vehicle on a pedal bike, entering the vehicle, and then leaving on the bike. The victim later discovered that several unauthorized purchases had been made using the stolen bank cards. The investigation is ongoing.
Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the Seabird Island area. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was suspected to be impaired, and following an investigation, was served with an Immediate Roadside Prohibition. Due to the driver’s level of intoxication, they were transported to hospital as a precaution. The passenger of the vehicle was also spoken to, and it was determined they had an outstanding arrest warrant and were breaching court conditions. The passenger was arrested and held in custody pending court.
A resident reported receiving a phone call from an unknown caller who claimed to be their son. The caller stated that the son had been involved in a vehicle collision that injured two pedestrians and requested several thousand dollars for bail. The resident recognized the call as a scam and did not send any money. The caller was able to provide the name of the complainant’s son. Police remind the public to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited phone calls requesting money or personal information.
Proactive patrols throughout the week resulted in several enforcement actions, including:
- A vehicle being towed for operating with no insurance, with a violation ticket issued.
- A roadside stop involving a swerving vehicle that resulted in a 24-hour roadside prohibition and the vehicle being seized.
