Dangerous Driving

Police responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven through a fence on Chaplin Road before continuing into a nearby field. The vehicle was later observed travelling westbound on Lougheed Highway at a high rate of speed, ultimately leaving the roadway and entering Maria’s Slough. Three occupants were seen walking away from the scene. When located, all individuals were uncooperative in identifying the driver but displayed signs of impairment. The investigation is ongoing.

Impaired Driving

In the early morning hours, an officer observed a vehicle travelling on Health Road without tail lights. During a traffic stop, the driver exited the vehicle and the officer quickly identified signs of impairment. The driver, who initially refused to identify himself, was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition, had his vehicle towed, and received a violation ticket for driving without a licence.

Warrant Arrest

An officer observed a man walking in town known to have an outstanding unendorsed arrest warrant. When the officer called out to him, he turned around and acknowledged the officer, confirming his identity. He was arrested and held in custody for court.

Check Well Being - Impaired Driving

At the request of another police agency, officers conducted a wellbeing check on a woman believed to be in the Agassiz area. She was located in Harrison Hot Springs inside a vehicle. Officers suspected alcohol impairment, however, she was not over the legal limit and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition following a roadside breath test. Her wellbeing was confirmed, and she safely left the area with a friend.

Impaired Driving

Police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a woman at a liquor store along Lougheed Highway. The woman was located shortly after leaving in a vehicle. Officers suspected impairment, and when she refused to comply with roadside testing, she was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her vehicle was seized.

School Bus Traffic Violations

Two separate drivers failed to stop for a school bus with its stop arm activated on two separate occasions. These incidents occurred within a 20-minute period at Ashton Road and Bodnar Road. Video evidence confirmed both offences, and violation tickets are being issued to the registered owners.

Impaired Driving

An off-duty officer reported a suspected impaired driver near Popkum and provided a licence plate. Although the vehicle was not immediately located, officers later intercepted it as it returned home. A roadside investigation confirmed impairment, and an Immediate Roadside Prohibition was issued.

Marine Incident

Police received a report of an intoxicated man attempting to dock a boat at Harrison Lake. The individual failed, abandoned the unsecured boat, and fled the area on foot. The man was not located.  Police have possession of the boat keys should the owner decide to come and retrieve them.

No insurance

A vehicle was stopped on Highway 9 after a query indicated it did not have valid insurance. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined the vehicle had already been stopped earlier that same day for the same offence. During the earlier interaction, the driver had been issued a violation ticket and agreed to park the vehicle and obtain valid insurance. The driver didn’t go along with the earlier agreement. This time the vehicle was towed, and the driver was issued an additional violation ticket.

Rail Safety Awareness

Sadly, two separate fatal incidents occurred last week in the Agassiz area involving individuals struck by trains. Neither incident is considered suspicious or criminal. Police are reminding the public of the importance of rail safety and exercising caution around train tracks.
