Impaired Driving

Officers in Agassiz were able to take several impaired drivers off the road this past week. This was a result of both proactive patrols and responding to calls for service.

In one instance, a vehicle was observed by an officer failing to maintain its lane. The vehicle made a few more traffic violations before a traffic stop was conducted. The officer met with the driver who was showing signs of impairment. The driver ultimately refused to provide roadside test samples which resulted in an IRP.

In another instance an officer was finishing up at an unrelated matter and saw a vehicle make several traffic violations before a roadside stop was conducted.  Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver refused to comply with the officers and attempted to avoid police by hiding in the back seat. After considerable effort by officers, the individual exited the vehicle but became combative and resisted arrest. Charges are being recommended, and the individual is scheduled to appear in court.

Officers responded to a report of single vehicle collision in Harrison Hot Springs involving a car and a hydro pole. Paramedics attended the scene and assessed the drive who was fortunately uninjured. However, the responding officers observed signs of impairment which resulted in an IRP.

Arrest warrant executed

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle associated with a man wanted on an outstanding warrant from Agassiz. The wanted individual was in the driver’s seat and arrested without incident. He was held for a court appearance.

Excessive speed

A vehicle was stopped on Highway 1 after being recorded travelling at 147 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The driver was issued an excessive speeding ticket, and the vehicle was impounded.

Theft from vehicle

A camper in the Bridal Falls area reported their vehicle was broken into overnight with several personal items taken.

Break and enter - residence

A residential break and enter was reported on Key Road.  The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of Forensic Identification Services.

Police remind the public to:

  • Always lock vehicles and avoid leaving valuables inside, regardless of location.
  • Drive safely and adhere to speed limits.
  • Plan ahead for a safe ride home and never drive while impaired.
