Impaired driving

While conducting proactive patrols on Highway 9, an officer observed a vehicle travelling without its lights on, crossing the double solid centre line, and driving at inconsistent speeds. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was asked to provide a roadside breath sample. Despite the officer explaining the process on not one, but nine separate occasions, the driver refused to comply with the roadside breath demand. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Stranded dirt biker

A dirt biker was injured while riding in a remote area near Harrison Lake and was unable to move without assistance. Due to the remote location, police requested assistance from local Search and Rescue (SAR) teams. The rugged terrain made rescue efforts difficult, and additional air support was provided by a second SAR team. The man was successfully brought to safety later in the day and received medical treatment for his injuries. Fortunately, he was reported to be in good health.

Gunshot mystery solved

Police received a report from a concerned citizen who believed they had heard numerous gunshots near the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge. Officers quickly attended and conducted extensive patrols of the area, searching for any signs that firearms had been discharged. After a thorough investigation, the mystery took a much less dramatic turn. Witnesses in the area confirmed the suspicious "gunshots" were actually coming from a vehicle with a particularly enthusiastic backfire as it drove away. Fortunately, there was no danger to the public, just a car that was apparently needing a tune up.

Youth on school roof

On a lighter note, police received a report of several suspicious individuals on the roof of a school in Agassiz. Officers responded to the area and located a group of youth nearby. As it turned out, there was no mischief afoot—just determined youth on an important recovery mission. Their soccer ball had been launched onto the roof, and the youngsters had taken matters into their own hands to get it back. With the mystery solved and the ball successfully recovered, everyone went on their way. It's always nice to see local kids staying active and making the most of their summer break, though next time, they may want to work on keeping the ball between the goalposts instead of on the rooftop.
