The Burnaby RCMP is inviting commercial vehicle drivers and operators to two upcoming information sessions focused on commercial vehicle safety happening on March 24, 2025.

The sessions are aimed at drivers and companies that operate commercial vehicles such as box trucks and delivery vehicles that can be operated with a Class 5 licence. It is not aimed at large transport vehicle and semi truck drivers including those with class 1 licences.

The education sessions will focus on pre-trip inspections, the Commercial Transport Act, truck routes, cargo securement, transporting live loads, vehicle defects, weight regulations and more, with the goal of refreshing commercial vehicle operators and companies on important safety information meant to keep all road users safe.

The information sessions are being hosted in partnership with Delta Police, BC Highway Patrol and WorkSafe BC. Representatives from these agencies will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions.

Drivers and companies that operate commercial vehicles requiring Class 5 licences such as box trucks and delivery vehicles interested in attending are asked to contact Burnaby RCMP to book a spot.

"We know many drivers and companies are doing their best to operate their commercial vehicles safely but may have questions we can help answer, which is why we are hosting these information sessions," said Cst. Kevin Connolly, Burnaby RCMP’s Designated Commercial Vehicle Inspector. "During commercial vehicle checks we often educate drivers roadside, but this is an opportunity to discuss commercial vehicle safety and best practices in an educational classroom environment."

Burnaby RCMP received positive feedback from attendees after hosting its first-ever education event of this kind in November 2024.

This education initiative is a new approach meant to supplement the ongoing work of the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (LMDCVE) Group which generally focuses on enforcement.
