The Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement group participated in the 2025 edition of Operation Safe Driver Week, a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) led initiative.
Operation Safe Driver Week is a North America-wide campaign aimed at improving driver’s behaviours through education, traffic-enforcement strategies and driver interactions with law enforcement.
Between July 14 and July 18, 2025, the group held targeted enforcement throughout the Lower Mainland, including in Burnaby, Langley, New Westminster and Delta.
The group observed 183 commercial vehicle moving violations, including:
- 78 speeding violations
- 45 disobey traffic control device violations (traffic lights, signage, truck route, etc.)
- 29 fail to wear seat belt violations
The five-day operation also led to the following:
- 181 commercial vehicles inspected
- 89 commercial vehicles placed out of service
- 517 violations identified
- 318 violation tickets issued
The following agencies took part in this year’s initiative:
- Burnaby RCMP
- BC Highway Patrol (Burnaby)
- Coquitlam RCMP
- Delta Police CVU
- New Westminster Police CVU
- City of Coquitlam Bylaw CVU
- City of Surrey Bylaw CVU
- Township of Langley Bylaw CVU
- Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE)
“The focus of this initiative was on driving infractions; however, once we have these commercial vehicles roadside and we inspect them, we are finding way too many safety and mechanical issues,” said Cst. Kevin Connolly, with Burnaby RCMP’s Traffic Services. “This, once again, highlights the importance of proper pre-trip inspections, which would alleviate a good number of these infractions.”
