Burnaby RCMP warn public after incident in local park

On August 20th at 7:24 pm, Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a woman who had been groped by a man in Central Park. The incident allegedly took place near the 5900 block of Patterson Avenue.
The victim had been walking alone on the trails, when a man approached her, touching her chest and vaginal area. After the incident the suspect ran away to another area of the park.
The victim and suspect are not known to each other.
The woman suffered no physical injuries and reported this incident immediately to police.
Burnaby RCMP Victim Services are engaged.
The suspect can be described as:
- Caucasian man
- 35 to 45 years old
- Slim build
- 5’6
- Brown eyes
- No facial hair
The suspect was wearing:
- White hoody
- Black shorts
- Multicoloured windbreaker
“Our investigative teams are actively working to identify the suspect in this incident,” said Acting Officer in Charge of Burnaby RCMP, Superintendent Sunny Parmar. “Public safety remains our priority; we have engaged our Community Response and Bike Teams for enhanced patrols in the area.”

Be aware of your surroundings; avoid wearing headphones or focusing on your phone as this may make you vulnerable
Plan your route to avoid isolated areas
Trust your instincts
Avoid situations that do not feel safe
