Burnaby RCMP’s Strike Force Unit investigated a series of residential break and enters that occurred between September 2023 and June 2024.

After an extensive investigation, on May 21, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved 18 charges against Shane Conrad Takakenew.

On August 27, 2025, Burnaby RCMP’s Strike Force Unit arrested Takakenew on 14 warrants.

Takakenew now faces the following charges:

  • 7 counts of break and enter
  • 9 counts of possession of stolen property
  • 2 counts of breaching a release order

As a result of the investigation, 34-year-old Burnaby resident Fabiola Diaz is also facing 9 counts of possession of stolen property.

“While victims of break and enters have to deal with the loss of valuable personal items, there is also an immense emotional toll that comes with this type of crime,” said Sgt. Aly Mohan with Burnaby RCMP’s Strike Force Unit. “We were able to return a number of items to several victims, but we also want the public to know that we have services in place to assist with the fear and anxiety that people experience in these situations.”
