A 32-year-old Southbank man is in custody and faces several charges in relation to an alleged assault and arson that occurred early Thursday morning.

On March 20, 2025, at 1:30 a.m., the Burns Lake RCMP responded to a report that a man had been struck by a vehicle in Southbank. The man apparently suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The victim’s residence was later discovered to be engulfed in flames.

Police identified the suspect to be a 32-year-old Southbank resident, located him at his home, and took him into custody without incident.

"All indications point to this being a targeted and isolated incident," said Staff Sergeant Joshua Smith, Burns Lake RCMP Detachment Commander. "There is no ongoing risk to public safety at this time."

Gerald Eric Noth has since been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, arson, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and breach of undertaking. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court by video on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details will be provided.
