Castlegar Search and Rescue air lift injured snowmobiler

On January 2^nd, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Castlegar emergency services were advised that a snowmobiler had sustained injuries while riding in the Goose Creek area located near Castlegar, BC.  The caller reported they had received an electronic message from a friend, who was able to communicate on a satellite telephone.  The message stated that the rider had sustained a serious injury and was receiving First Aid treatment from the friend that was riding with him.  Embedded in the message were the GPS coordinates of the injured rider.

Given the remote location and terrain of the area, Castlegar Search and Rescue were dispatched who sent a team to rescue the injured rider.

The rescue team arrived at the location and continued First Aid to the injured 21-year-old Grand Forks resident, preparing him for transport.  The injured male was air lifted to an awaiting ambulance and transported to hospital.  The male received further medical care for their injuries and is anticipated to make a full recovery.   

Castlegar Search and Rescue personnel are volunteers who train regularly for a variety of unfortunate incidents which occur in remote and urban settings.  Their assistance in this matter aided in the successful transport of the injured rider to the awaiting ambulance for urgently required medical treatment.
