On July 31, 2025 at 13:44, frontline officers from the Comox Valley RCMP, along with BC Emergency Health Services and Cumberland Fire Department, responded to a tragic incident near Comox Lake where a tree fell on a 26-year-old woman and her 5-month-old child.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the young mother passed away at the scene. The infant was transported to hospital but sadly did not survive.

Comox Valley RCMP will be working with BC Coroners Service to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths; however, based on the initial information, there is no criminality suspected.

Out of respect for the family, and given the sensitive nature of this loss, no further details will be released. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected and thank the bystanders who stepped in to help under heartbreaking circumstances.
