As the holiday season gets underway, Coquitlam RCMP is bringing back “Grinch Watch” as part of efforts to prevent shoplifting and other thefts in high-risk areas.

With December being one of the busiest shopping months of the year, officers will be increasing proactive patrols to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.

"December is a time for celebration; however, it also brings an increase in retail theft and vehicle break-ins as criminals take advantage of the holiday rush," said Inspector Veronica Fox of Coquitlam RCMP. "Our officers are committed to keeping both shoppers and store owners safe from Grinches. The only thing our residents should have to worry about this December is picking the perfect gift."

“Grinch Watch” focuses on retail hotspots and high-theft locations where incidents typically rise during the festive season. Officers and volunteers will maintain a visible presence and work closely with local businesses to identify and address suspicious activity.

The campaign also includes community outreach, reminding shoppers and store employees to stay alert and report suspicious behavior. To contact police, call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency line at 604-945-1550, or 911 in an emergency.

Coquitlam RCMP wish everyone to have a safe and happy holiday season!
