On April 12, 2026, shortly after 9:00 p.m. Coquitlam RCMP received a report of a suspicious incident in the 1600 block of Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam that occurred around 4:45 p.m. According to the complainant, an unknown man in a white Ford pick-up truck drove up to two youth and attempted to speak with them. The youths did not engage and left the area at which point the driver drove away.
On April 12, shortly after 10:30 p.m. Coquitlam RCMP received a second report of a similar suspicious incident that occurred on April 4, 2026, in the area of Poirier Street and Harbour Drive in Coquitlam. According to the complainant, a white Ford pick-up truck drove up to a youth and attempted to speak with them. The youth did not engage and immediately left the area and returned to their residence.
Coquitlam RCMP believe these two incidents are related based on the vehicle and driver description.
The vehicle is described as:
- A mid-2000s white Ford Super Duty pick-up truck
- Missing the front licence plate
- Lifted suspension with large off-road tires
- Cylindrical tanks visible in the truck bed
Despite all investigative efforts the licence plate number could not be obtained.
The driver is described as:
- Caucasian male
- Mid-20s in age
- Slim build
- Short or thinning brown hair
“While nothing criminal of nature occurred during these incidents, the behaviour of this individual is unusual which is why we are issuing this warning”, says Sergeant Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer, “While we continue to investigate these incidents, we want to remind the public of the importance of speaking with your kids about personal safety.”
Coquitlam RCMP encourages parents, caregivers, and community members to have conversations with youth about personal safety, including:
- Being aware of your surroundings
- Knowing it is ok to say no and not engage with unknown individuals
- Going to a safe place if they feel uncomfortable
- Reporting suspicious behaviour to a trusted adult and to police
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604‑945‑1550 and reference file 2026‑8892.
