Coquitlam RCMP officer’s advanced medical training helps save a life in Coquitlam.

On Friday, April 24, 2026, while conducting daily uniformed proactive duties, a Coquitlam RCMP officer, who happened to be specially trained as a Tactical Police Medic, assisted the Coquitlam RCMP Proactive Community Engagement and Safety Team (PCES) with an unresponsive person who was experiencing a critical medical emergency. Police worked together, utilizing a life-saving combination of CPR along with the use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), Naloxone, and other advanced lifesaving measures to successfully revive the previously pulseless individual. BC Emergency Health Services attended the scene and transported the patient to hospital for further follow-up evaluation.

“On this day, the combination of advanced care Tactical Police Medic training and standard first aid training saved a life. RCMP Tactical Police Medics are regular members who volunteer to take on additional, intensive training and medical duties and can be found in all RCMP Divisions and Territories across Canada” said Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer Corporal John Graham, “The outcome on this day is a reminder to the importance and benefits of the additional extensive specialized medical training program, which select members have achieved,  and the  implementation of the training during proactive patrols which all of our officers conduct 24/7, 365 days a year in our communities.”

Proudly serving Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Village of Anmore, Village of Belcarra and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.
