Coquitlam RCMP respond to report of male in vehicle allegedly pointing firearm, locate suspect with replica firearm.
On May 9, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a man in a vehicle who had allegedly pointed a firearm at two persons inside a vehicle and proceeded to follow them.
As a result of quick police investigative actions, a suspect vehicle license plate was identified and subsequent patrols located the suspect vehicle, occupied by one Coquitlam man who was arrested. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, incidental to arrest, an alleged replica firearm was located. The suspect was later released on a police undertaking with numerous court conditions and a requirement to attend court with the recommended charges of Pointing a Firearm and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. The file remains under investigation.
“There is absolutely no excuse for this type of alleged behaviour and if those in the community choose to do so, expect a visit from police and to potentially face weapons related criminal charges,” said Media Relations Officer Corporal John Graham. “We want to remind the general public that, to ensure public and police safety, any incidents involving replica firearms or devices believed to be firearms must be considered by police to be actual real firearms until otherwise ruled out.”
