On June 18th, 2026, at approximately 8:50 AM, multiple calls were made to the Fort St John RCMP reporting a male brandishing and pointing what was believed to be a firearm at staff of a local business near Alaska Road North and 92A Street in Fort St John, BC.
Fort St John RCMP frontline members responded immediately and located the suspect leaving the area on foot. A foot chase ensued after which the male was taken into custody near Matthews Park; it was subsequently determined that the object brandished by the male was not a real firearm but resembled one.
33-year-old Ryan Allen HICK was held in custody and charged with Robbery, Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Breach of Probation.
“This incident developed rapidly and witnesses had reason to believe the male was in possession of a real firearm. It was determined afterward that the object brandished by the suspect was not a real firearm, this however did not detract from the seriousness of the situation and the male now has multiple charges laid against him”, stated Constable Christiaan Dreyer, Media Relations Officer with the Fort St John RCMP.
