Hope RCMP remained busy this week, responding to an increase in calls for service throughout the detachment area. Officers continued to provide policing services in both Hope and Boston Bar while also supporting ongoing wildfire response efforts. Despite these additional demands, members investigated a variety of incidents, including motor vehicle collisions, impaired driving, suspicious fires, neighbour disputes, and other property-related offences.

Rollover collision on Highway 5

Hope RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover collision on Highway 5 near the Othello Road exit. When officers arrived, the driver and sole occupant had already exited the vehicle and was alert, having sustained minor injuries. The driver was transported to hospital for treatment. The investigation determined the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter the ditch. Impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the collision.

Impaired driving

Officers received a report of a possible impaired driver in Boston Bar. An officer located the suspect vehicle in Boston Bar and conducted a traffic stop. Following roadside testing, the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle, which was a company-owned vehicle, was towed and held for the registered owner to retrieve.

Prohibited driver

An officer observed a vehicle travelling on Highway 1 near Hope and determined through police records that the registered owner was a prohibited driver. A roadside stop confirmed the driver was the registered owner. The man was arrested for prohibited driving and later released with a future court date.

Mischief to mechanic shop

An employee of a mechanic shop in Boston Bar reported that a man had caused damage to property and threatened to return and cause further damage. Police located and arrested the suspect, who appeared remorseful for his actions. He was later released on conditions not to return to the business and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

Neighbour dispute

Hope RCMP received a report of a neighbour dispute in North Bend. During the incident, a man allegedly made threats toward other individuals in the area. As officers were responding, a motor vehicle collision related to the dispute also occurred. One man was transported to hospital with injuries associated with the collision. The suspect was arrested and held in custody before being released to attend court at a later date. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the suspect's residence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Fires at motel

Within a few hours of one another, officers responded to two separate fires at a motel on Flood Hope Road. The first fire damaged a small structure outside of the motel, while the second fire caused damage to the motel roof. The fires are being treated as suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing as investigator work to determine the cause.

Stranded boaters 

Hope RCMP received notification of an SOS message indicating several boaters were stranded near Ross Lake in the Skagit Valley and required assistance. In collaboration with Hope Search and Rescue, the stranded individuals were located the following day and brought to safety. No injuries were reported, and all individuals were found to be in good health.
