The victim of a violent attack that took place September 27, 2025, sadly, has succumbed to his injuries.
At approximately 5:08 a.m. on September 27, 2025, frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP Detachment were called to the 700-block of Notre Dame for a report of an injured man. Upon arrival police discovered that Jason Pinette, a 39-year-old Kamloops man, had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition. Kamloops RCMP initiated an investigation at that time and as a result of a multi-unit response, were able to locate the suspect believed to be responsible.
Jason Pinnete did not survive the attack. On Wednesday October 8, 2025, Justin Hopkin-Jones was charged with second-degree murder. He is currently in custody.
“This investigation was well supported from the initial call, which started with our frontline officers, Forensic Identification Services, General Investigation Services Team, and the Serious Crime Unit,” said Superintendent Jeff Pelley Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. “Our team has worked diligently over the course of this investigation to gather evidence and follow-up on investigative material.”
“As this matter is now before the courts, we can not speak to the details, however, I want to acknowledge the swift and coordinated team effort to advance this investigation, securing charge approval,” said Superintendent Pelley. “The Kamloops RCMP Detachment offers our condolences to the family and friends of Jason.”
The investigation will now continue to progress through the court process, and no further information will be available for release.
