Update: North Shore schools lock down and social media reports

On November 6, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Kamloops RCMP attended a report of a person with a gun at a school which led to the lock down of Norkam Secondary School and the surrounding schools. Police ensured the safety of students at the schools and at 3:20 p.m. the lockdown was lifted, and students were united to with their families.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report that a social media post was being circulated amongst students on Snapchat in response to the lockdown earlier in the day. The post threatened students’ safety and has raised concerns in the community.

Kamloops RCMP General Investigation Section has lead in the investigation and is working tirelessly to investigate both incidents.

The investigation is ongoing; however, police thus far have found no credible evidence to suggest there was a person with a firearm at the school on Thursday.  Additionally, the social media posts appear to be repeated from previously reported posts in September.

“We are working closely with the school district to ensure the safety of everyone. Out of an abundance of caution, police will have an increased presence around the school,” says Inspector Justin Thiessen, Kamloops RCMP Operations Officer. “Additionally, there are support services available through the school for students following yesterday’s events.”

Police request that if you have any information regarding these incidents to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and quote file number 2025-37145
